Talking about Design in Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon

Organized by the Goethe-Institut, this panel invites designers and curators from Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon to shed light on the local circumstances, challenges, and potentials of the design scenes in the MENA region.

The panel presents impressions from design production processes and design products, and it highlights cases for innovation in design. It also discusses the importance of alternative design learning and qualification programs as a key driver for creative economies and it informs about the contribution of the Goethe-Institut in supporting the development of the design scenes in the three countries.
Since 2019, the creative integrative hubs Khan Al Fan, takween and FANTASMEEM have been established by the Goethe-Institut as part of a Cultural and Creative Industries project in the MENA region. Over a period of four years, hundreds of designers have taken part in varied design and entrepreneurship programs that allowed them to develop their professional skills.

* The project “Cultural and Creative Industries” is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut. It aims to improve employment and income opportunities for creative professionals in Africa and the Middle East.
