More participation through automated translation into sign language
Ergosign GmbH
- — Podiumsdiskussion
Steinerstraße 15, 81369 München
We are researching the automated translation of spoken and written German into German sign language. A sign language avatar is intended to improve participation in travel.
Communication in the context of travel mainly occurs in the form of announcements and written advertisements, which makes it difficult for sign language speakers to participate. The research project AVASAG (avatar-based language assistant for automated sign translation) aims at developing a sign language avatar for the automated translation of spoken and written German into German Sign Language (GSL). The main focus is set on local and long-distance travel. The insights from AVASAG can also be applied to other sectors of the economy.
In the research project, we learned a lot about how a human-centered design process with technologies such as motion capture and machine learning can be used to create an understandable, easy-to-use, and likable sign language avatar.
The event is divided into a lecture part followed by a panel discussion and lively exchange. In the design talk, we address the question of how signers and companies can benefit from the presentation of content in GSL at the same time. We will be in exchange about the individual requirements of both sides.
In order to make this possible, the conversation takes place bilingually in German spoken language and GSL.
Ergosign is a digital agency with a focus on user experience. We have been designing human-centric products and services for over 20 years.
