Panel talk: design competence and business success

A panel talk will discuss how companies can design effectively and how design influences business success. USM and Miele provide insight into their design capabilities.

Design is more than just a beautiful surface. It is clear that good design is an important component of corporate success: Many studies have shown this and best practices such as Apple, Tesla, dm or Patagonia live it. What these role models have in common is excellence thinking, which is also reflected in design: They want to develop their capability to the fullest and do everything they can to develop it. In successful companies, design excellence is a decisive factor, its expression adapted to the strategy in each case.

In a comprehensive study, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts has investigated design skills and described how they develop optimally in a company. Within the framework of a case study with USM and Miele as well as an online survey among specialists, a comprehensive model was developed that captures and describes design capabilities. The goal is to develop a maturity model that helps companies identify strengths and weaknesses and thus develop design excellence.

During the mcbw, the results will be presented by Prof. Jan-Erik Baars. This will be followed by a panel discussion with representatives from USM, Miele and Bayern Design, explaining the prerequisites for corporate success through design.

The evening will end with an aperitif on the premises of USM.
